Conflict resolution is one of the most effective anger management techniques which can be used in any situation in our lives, whether we are dealing with our bosses, co-workers or even children. It is an effective tool which can be used in both personal and professional settings to solve problems and avoid heated arguments.
Outlined are a series of steps which form the basis of conflict resolution:
1) The first step is by setting the ground rules, which include no blaming, cursing, interrupting or raising voices.
2) Next, we have to listen carefully to what each party has to say. Do no interrupt and let the other party share their feelings, needs and expectations. Take turns in sharing views.
3) By finding common interests, such as things both parties can agree on, it helps foster better rapport and understanding of each others way of thoughts.
4) Brainstorm all the solutions possible. Listen to all options without pre-judging and then slowly discuss the pros and cons of each solution.
5) Share with each other your personal interpretation of each solution. Different people have different thoughts and feelings towards each proposed measure so it is important to listen to what other think before jumping to conclusions.
6) Work together for the common goal. Most importantly, the ultimate common goal should be the priority and we should always willingly drop our ego and accept other solutions if it produces a better result than your own.
7) Be willing to compromise. Sometimes, it is just better to give than to receive. If everyone compromises, everyone will be happy and the problem will be solved.
